Dear Students and Parents,
I hope everyone is enjoying today’s snow day and finding ways to stay warm! I wanted to give you an update on the high school and upcoming events. We have now officially moved into our second semester (hard to believe), and look forward to an outstanding 2nd half of the year. Seniors are that much closer to graduation. Staff and counselors are preparing for next year’s course recommendations. Students, this is an important time to think about what you are interested in and the kinds of academic and elective pathways that will allow you to find your niche, pursue long-term goals, and find success.
The following are upcoming events and ongoing initiative that might interest you:
January 25 – Parent Forum (Dr. Erardi – High School Lecture Hall) 7:00 p.m.
January 31- Valentine’s for our Troops (Extended Advisory) – 7:20 a.m.
February 1- PTSA General Meeting – Conference B140 – 10:30 a.m.
February 1- Early Graduation Ceremony – 4:30 p.m. – High School Cafetorium
February 6- 8th Grade Curriculum Night (Incoming Freshmen Only) – 7:00 a.m.
February 8- Principal’s Breakfast – Conference B140 – 9:30 a.m.
We are also proud of the ongoing work of our Safe School Climate Committee led by Dana Manning, Assistant Principal. Our school has continued to ensure we are setting a positive climate for all students and staff. Our #BeKindOnline is an initiative developed by our Safe School Climate Committee –which encourages appropriate and respectful behavior by all students. A group of high school students will be visiting the middle school in February to engage in discussions around online behaviors, inclusion, diversity, and the power of the bystander (upstander).
Through our Advisory Program, staff and students participate in school-wide activities that celebrate kindness and respect (and healthy competition). Our Unified Sports and Theater students continue to demonstrate a commitment to supporting one another as members of our school community, and our Newtown High School Student Government is busy planning activities for students and staff in the months ahead.
I continue to be proud of our Newtown High School students and dedicated staff. As the year continues, we look forward to celebrating their achievements, their community service, their acts of kindness, and their leadership.
